Campbell Mattinson 91+ points!
Campbell Mattinson 91+ points! The 2008 was a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, shiraz, merlot and pinot noir. Michael Glover explains it takes "a lot of shiraz" to get it to the point where it tasted good. The Cabernet Sauvignon component is only 12 percent, but "all the blending decisions are still determined and dictated by the cabernet".
It's hugely aromatic " in a stalky, dusty, herbal kind of way. This isn't a wine of sweet fruit. Cherries, smoke, sap, tonic, dried herb, mulberry, even some truffle. As a red Australian wine, it's pretty much completely out there. But what it does have is life, balance, and the almost guaranteed potential to age well, over at least the medium term. It's a cabernet blend, for pinot drinkers. How about that?
