[SOLD-OUT] Bannockburn De La Roche Shiraz 2011

"The front label doesn't mention shiraz but that's what it's made with. It's the first release from this vineyard. Planted at 10,000 vines per hectare. Dry grown, cuttings taklen from Best's and Tahbilk. In 2012 and 2013 this wine was made with 100% whole bunches but in the cool 2011 year it was 100% destemmed. I like it when a recipe or even a preference is not slavishly followed; the talk between season and vineyard is eavesdropped upon. Production: 250 dozen.
It's a wine with a sweet core of black cherried fruit flavour but that is, in all other respects, overwhelmingly savoury. Cracked pepper, dry licorice, both preserved and uncooked meats, fistfuls of leaves and dry spice. It's lingering and bitter, elegant and fragrant."

Michael Glover has contrived a magnificently structured Shiraz with a cage of firm, fine tannins weaving seamlessly amidst a panoply of savoury allure of aromatic sage, iodine, pan juices, roast tomato, game, even coal. As unique and engaging as its maker.
