Wine Front 93 Points!
Lemon on apple, rich scents but fresh, touches of nougat in the mix too. Slightly sour-sweet in flavours but fine, shows some fleshy character in texture, brisk acidity underlying , a kind of pleasing wild edge in the mix. It’s generous but fresh, ‘funky’ though I loathe the word in wine context. Good drinking."
- Mike Bennie, Wine Front
"Named for the year of the Battle of Bannockburn. We make this wine with bistro lunch in our minds; stylistically fresh, vibrant and made for immediate drinking enjoyment.
Predominantly from our Stuart block, planted in 1997 to Bernard clones 95 and 96 and from Kelly Lane block planted in 2016 to clone 76. Normal timing for both budburst and harvest, with a very even season of occasional rain and only very occasional hotter days.
Whole bunch pressed to tank, settled overnight and racked to a combination of oak puncheons and stainless steel tank. Fermented with indigenous yeast. The tank portion was fermented slowly to maintain freshness and aromatics, and prevented from completing malolactic fermentation. Blended prior to bottling in November 2018.
Classic Bannockburn aromatics, slightly less defined by power than the precision of the Bernard clones in this case. A full palate lengthened by balanced acids and a hint of oak spice. Freshens in the glass, and versatile with regard to food pairings."
