'Put very simply this is the best Pinot I've seen from South Australia.' - Phillip White!

“This has a complex bouquet of charcuterie, earth and oak with some peppery, crushed seashell and stalky whole-bunch ferment touches. In the mouth, it's concentrated, supple and again complex, the texture yielding and the flavour persistent”

“Earliest harvest on record for Ashton Hills. A third sees new oak.

Assertive bouquet of fine, cedary oak, clove and walnut husks, but well meshed in pickled and fresh dark cherry fruit with just a whiff of cranberry. The palate is gently sappy, sticks softly to the palate, shows excellent length, offers bright, forward, amaro-kissed cherry fruit character, a touch of breathy kirsch as it lingers. Gentle yet loaded with flavour, it’s a complex, elegant pinot noir of easy access, control and yet assertion. Delighted to see it.”

Mike Bennie, Wine Front, February 2017

The 2015 growing season in the Adelaide Hills delivered excellent ripening conditions, with warm days resulting in great flavour development and cool nights ensuring good retention of acid. Starting in the first week of March, this was our earliest vintage on record and despite modest yields, the consistency in temperature and fruit ripening resulted in a vintage of outstanding quality.

Half of the Reserve Pinot Noir came from our original plantings which are now 33 years old. Three of our five preferred Estate clones contributed to this wine - D5V12 (55%), Martini (27%) and 777 (18%) - while a third of the wine was matured in new French Oak.

Put very simply, this is the best Pinot I've seen from South Australia. Maybe from the whole big ol' country. I don't think Tassie has produced one this provocative and comforting, yet that's where all the other Pinophiles seem to be headed. You need more than cold weather to make wines like this. You need passion and persistence and decades and money.

Since breaking ground there in 1982, Stephen has tried at least 25 clones of Pinot, gradually discarding and replacing the duds. Now he's down to his five favourites.

From the first breath, this is a deep and mellow dream, perfectly seamless and fleshy beneath its gently piquant oak. I could go on about all manner of fruits but that would only deflect the mind from the gloriously sensual wallow of a thing it is.
