Stephen George has long been looking for an opportunity to showcase Jim's fruit solo, and the high quality and above average yields 2013 gave him that opportunity. Being warmer and drier and having deeper soils, the fruit is picked a couple of weeks earlier and the wine showcases the character of the site in more muscle than the higher and cooler Ashton Hill's site. The contrast is distinctive and compelling. Blend No 1 is layered with savoury beetroot, lifted blueberries, mixed spice and an impressive core of black cherry fruit. It's an expressive and well structured style of firm, robust tannins, yet still silky and textural, with excellent persistence."
