Wine Advocate 94 points!
Variety: 100% Nebbiolo
Wine Advocate 94 points!"The 2008 Barolo Monvigliero boasts serious power and richness in this vintage. A heady melange of dark red cherries, flowers, licorice, incense and smoke emerges from the glass as the Monvigliero captivates all of the senses. Unlike the Gramolere, the Monvigliero is quite youthful today. It needs at least a few years to strut its stuff (anticipated maturity: 2016-2028), but is nevertheless impressive. Layers of fruit continue to build to a huge crescendo of aromas and flavors on the finish.
This is yet another solid set of wines from Fratelli Alessandria. Fine Barolo is never inexpensive, but these wines all deliver superb quality for the money. The single-vineyard Baroli are aged in a combination of French oak tonneaux and larger casks, an approach that works beautifully."
