[SOLD-OUT] Adelina Watervale Riesling 2016

"Both the Adelina Rieslings from 2016 are outright Australian benchmarks and offer truly superb drinking. The Watervale hails from very good soil. The mature Gulley View vineyard, on red loamy clay over limestone, historically supplied Leo Buring, once the maker of countless outstanding Rieslings. The fruit is handpicked, whole-bunch pressed, fermented with a mix of indigenous and inoculated yeast and raised in stainless tanks. Col halts the ferment with around 5g/l residual sugar to balance the site's intense acidity. The result is a wine with a fabulous, pulpy texture shot through with pithy, sherberty freshness and plenty of saline zing on the finish. Only 200 odd cases of the 2016 were produced. Forgive the name-dropping, but I enjoyed a bottle of the 2015 Watervale with Katharina Prüm when she was in town earlier this year. Obviously Katharina is no stranger to quality Riesling, and she loved this wine (served with Cumulus' anchovies on toast FYI). Not that we need one of the world's finest Riesling producers to tell us what to drink, do we?"
