[SOLD-OUT] Palacios Remondo La Vendimia Rioja 2014

eRobertParker.com 91 Points!

Variety: Tempranillo

Region: Rioja D.O, Spain

Deep garnet in color with a ruby rim, this consumer-friendly wine has delicate aromas of red roses and violet, mixed with raspberries, milk chocolate and hints of orange rind. With both red and black fruit notes present in equal parts on the palate due to its 50/50 Garnacha/Tempranillo blend, this wine is the perfect combination of the best of both varieties. Meant to drink now through the next four years, this delightful wine can also be served slightly chilled.

As the 2013 is sold out (but surely still available in shops), I had a preview of the 2014 Rioja Tinto Vendimia that is ready to be bottled. As usual it is a blend of Tempranillo from Rioja Alta and Garnacha from Alfaro. Following an old tradition, this wine always contains around 8% of wine from the previous harvest that stays in barriques for one year. The rules of the appellations allow up to 15% of wine from other vintages, so this is completely legal, and it's something that was always done. There is crunchy fruit here that can be enjoyed now in its primary, exuberant phase but that can also be uncorked three, four years after the vintage. The 2014 is in a way similar to 2013, and produced lighter wines.
