[SOLD-OUT] Marc-Antonin Blain Chassagne Montrachet 2018

JANCIS ROBINSON 16+ POINTS!  PERSISTENT BUT RESTRAINED, THIS IS A GORGEOUS WHITE BURGUNDY.

"Run by Marc-Antonin Blain, son of Jean-Marc and Claudine of the famed Burgundian producer Blain-Gagnard, the vineyard was handed to him by his Grandfather a year before his passing. Spanning 1.16 ha the Domaine is divded amongst four appellations including Batard Montrachet. New oak barrels are never used to excess, being subtly spread amongst the different cuvées, so that spicy oakiness is never perceptible.

These grapes come from a single plot named Les Voillenots, planted in 1976 by Marc-Antonin`s grandfather. The old vine-roots penetrate deep down into fissures in the limestone bed-rock, bringing exhilarating character. Colour is pale lemon-golden, aromas generous, ripe and open. Some growers in Chassagne- Montrachet added tartaric acid in 2018, to help balance their wines, but Marc-Antonin had no need to do this – natural grape-sugars have given 13% of alcohol, and the natural acidity balances the wine beautifully. This is rich, soft and long." Domaine Marc-Antonin Blain

"Super-ripe lemon and green fruits, almost veering to apricot. Creamy too. Powerful in its ripeness but, to my surprise, not lacking in freshness, though the acid seems quite soft. Persistent too. Dense rather than elegant." - Jancis Robinson
