The 2012 Barolo Cannubi Boschis opens with beguiling aromatics redolent of crushed rose petal, spices, mint and new leather. Wonderfully layered and nuanced, especially for the year, the 2012 offers good freshness to match its inviting, supple fruit. In 2012, the fruit tends towards the redder end of spectrum, unusual for Cannubi Boschis, which usually tends towards darker shades of expression. The 2012 is perfumed, lithe and super-classy from start to finish.

The 2012 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is a solid and tighter wine compared to the 2012 Le Vigne. Of Sandrone's two new Barolo releases, this wine definitely needs more time to evolve and soften with extra years of bottle aging. The tannins are more evident and the wine's firm backbone acts to support dark fruit flavors with distant accents of spice, licorice and tobacco.

Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and with indigenous yeast. The temperature in the vats is increased a little so that the fermentation starts immediately. Total skin maceration is a maximum 15 days on the skins. The wine is racked off the skins when there is still 20-30 g/l RS, and malolactic fermentation as well as ageing follows in tonneaux of which only 10% is new. It stays in oak for 24-30 months.
Mid ruby with orange tinges. Very fine nose of soft, perfumed red fruit supported by just a touch of oak. With aeration iron, orange peel and fresh cherry. Very elegant and fine with finely grained, ongoing tannins. Beautiful and fine.
Walter Speller, JancisRobinson, November 2015

The 2012 Barolo Cannubi Boschis shows great aromatic complexity, with raspberry, strawberry and underbrush notes in an open, generous nose. The palate shows more backwardness; complex, layered flavors of red fruits, eucalyptus, leather and mushroom with dry, delicate tannins that will need a few years to evolve. The finish has long red fruit character with dry tannins and hints of wood. The wine is already drinkable and generous but will benefit from a few years of patience. Drink 2020-2035.
