[SOLD-OUT] Juniper Estate Small Batch Tempranillo 2017

WINE FRONT 91 POINTS!
TOP 50 MARGARET RIVER BUYS!

"From the ‘Crossing’ not the ‘Estate’ range and given the denomination of ‘Small Batch’. A bunch of different clones contribute to the whole; it’s been a decade-long project for Juniper. Hangs out in older barrels.

Juicy red of brightness and general gluggability, showing strong perfume of sarsaparilla, cherry cola, sweet spice. The palate has some grunt and chew but the wine sits at medium bodied and relatively soft. There’s some plummy fruit sweetness with the cola-root beer characters, and a good dusting of peppery spice to close, with tannin pucker. Has a freshness too. Good drinking, is the message." - Mike Bennie, Wine Front

"Good depth of colour with a smoky bacon-like, oak-driven bouquet. The wine is medium to full-bodied and firm in its tannins. The structure is good and the after-grip quite marked. Long, tannin finish. A more serious iteration of tempranillo, which should also age very well." - Huon Hooke

"Five clones of Tempranillo are now planted in the estate's Forest Grove vineyard. Spicy redcurrant and blackberry, fleshy texture, finishing with balanced, firm, fine tannins." - Peter Forestal, Decanter
