[SOLD-OUT] Holyman Pinot Noir 2019

WINE FRONT 94+ POINTS!

"Red and black cherry, exotic spice, dried roses, and some sweet damp earthiness. It’s tight and quite tangy in acidity, with layers of graphite tannin, some pomegranate tartness here, but also has flavour and a long and firm finish. It’s kind of old school Burgundy style in a way, just the essential bits and little excess, and quite demanding and uncompromising as a young wine. I like it, but it’s not really a wine to drink now. I think it will be very good with quite a few years under its belt." Gary Walsh, Wine Front

"Red cherries and spicy oak on the nose with some cassis and forest floor showing on the palate. The tannins are initially quite subtle but build in the mouth. Our usual structure and mouthfeel back this up, and help to give the wine its long finish. One to be put down if you can.

2019 was a fantastic growing season here on kanamaluka, River Tamar, warm days and cool nights was the way it went. This equates to beautiful ripening conditions for all varieties.

Every vintage we begin by going up and down each of the 40 rows in the 0.6Ha block we use for this and choosing only the ripest of bunches. As the seasons are different the proportion of whole bunches vary. It has been as low as 20% in the cool 2009 vintage and up to 75% in this wine.

This is our “flagship” wine, and as with the Holyman Chardonnay they are wines that are made to express the vagaries of the seasons here in lutruwita rather than to a style." - Stoney Rise
