"Guimaro is a top producer for Mencia wines from the magical slopes of the Ribeira Sacra. This specific young release is made from Mencia + 15% other varieties, selection from terrace vineyards, 70% along the Rio Sil (slate and granite) and 30% along the Rio Minho (sand, quartz and slate).
Fresh and wild smelling with forest strawberry, lightly smoked blackberry canes and gently pressed wild cherry juice in mountain air. The palate has just enough glycerol to get the thing going, and is in a spare, foresty, scrubby register. Serene and beautiful with a light skin-grip frame, it's a pure country wine – light, earthy and clear. It's proud but not showy, and very real. From multiple plots of Mencía vines with an average age of 40 years old, located in and around Amandi.
The un-oaked tinto is all about immediate pleasure with pure, lush red fruits, spices, and slate-laden minerality. A wine to pair with all kinds of foods, especially chorizos, embutidos, roast pork, spicy foods, any dish with a lot of Pimenton." - Guimaro
