Baga is an interesting native Portuguese red grape similar to Pinot Noir.
Key figures in the Portuguese wine industry including Filipa Pato are behind the movement to promote the Baga variety and conserve the old vines which were getting ripped out to make way for international varieties.
Baga is the key grape of the Bairrada region.It has enough acid and tannin to age amazingly well.
It's also used for sparkling base similar to Pinot Noir.
It can be made in the bright clean early drinking style that Filipa has done with this wine.
