[SOLD-OUT] Coriole Fiano 2021

94 POINTS JAMES HALLIDAY!

"Long a pioneer of this outstanding variety, recent critical acclaim and gradual acceptance by the punter is iterated as greater confidence in the vineyard and winery. More concentration, detail and a certain fealty to the better example of Campania, fiano’s spiritual home, the result. Glazed quince, bitter almond, pistachio, apricot pith and wild fennel. A sluice of welcome phenolics defies the long finish as much as the saline acidity. Very good. Great vintage, to boot." - Wine Companion

"The grape variety Fiano originates from the province of Avellino in the Campania region east of Naples. The variety takes its name from the Latin 'vitis apiana', as the grapes were so sweet they proved to be irresistible to bees ('api'). Fiano was selected by Mark Lloyd when looking for a new southern Italian variety to grow in McLaren Vale. The first Australian Fiano was released by Coriole from the 2005 vintage.

A rich, complex and full example of this great variety. The intriguing nose keeps you going back for further exploration; white nectarine, butter poached fruit, baked apple, fresh cut hay, rosehip & papaya to name a few. The palate is beautifully balanced with great natural acidity, a soft, creamy texture and an array of citrus characters. We’re deliberately going for a more textural style and this variety loves McLaren Vale’s warm, Mediterranean climate which encourages wines of aromatic intensity and textural generosity" - Coriole
