The 1988 Fieuzal is an extracted, darkly-colored wine with an excellent nose of sweet curranty fruit, medium body, and a compact, very tannic (nearly astringent) finish. The wine has closed up since its bottling and appears to need considerable time in the bottle. This wine appears to be made in a style that will never shed its tannin, and will always have a certain astringency and austerity. It is capable of lasting another two decades, but it will always remain an angular style of Fieuzal. Anticipated maturity: Now-2012. Last tasted 1/97
